Recipe:

1.5 cups warm water

1.5 tblspn yeast

1.5 tsp salt

2 tblspn softened butter

4 cups flour

1 egg white

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450 F.

  2. Combine warm (bath water temp - not too hot, not too cold) water, yeast, salt and sugar into a bowl.

  3. Let sit for one minute.

  4. Add one cup of flour and stir together with wooden spoon.

  5. Use a dough hook to mix in 2 more cups of flour.

  6. Very slowly add the last cup of the flour. The dough should be pulling away from the sides of the mixing bowl, but still sticky.

  7. Knead the dough for 8 minutes.

  8. Spray pan/baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.

  9. Shape dough into two long baguettes.

  10. Make 3-4 1/2" slits in each baguette.

  11. Cover with towel and let rise for 20 minutes.

  12. When doubled in size, uncover.

  13. Beat your egg white and use it to brush evenly over each baguette.

  14. Bake in oven for 20 minutes. Ready when golden brown.

  15. Let cool and serve with butter!
